Lattice-type Ball Mill and Overflow-type Ball Mill are two common types of ball mill, and there are some differences between them:
 
Grinding products of overflow type ball mill are discharged through the hollow shaft free spillover. To this end, the level of pulp within the body must be higher than the minimum row of the bus axle level, it is sometimes known as high-pulp surface grinding mill. Its discharge is not as smooth as lattice-type ball mill, sometimes this will cause ore particles which has reached the grinding fineness can not be discharged in time and continue to be grinded. This results in a low productivity of the ball mill and over-pulverization of the produce. But the overflow type ball mill has the advantages of simple structure, convenient operation and maintenance, and fine product. It is commonly used in fine grinding, that is when the grinding fineness is less than 0.2 mm or in the second section of two continuous grinding.

Grinding product of Lattice-type ball mill is discharged from the grid plate discharge, with a forced discharge of ore. It is characterized by rapid discharge of ore, discharge end of the pulp level is lower than the minimum row of the row of the bus shaft level, which is called a low level of discharge. In the mill, there is a difference in height from the feeding end to the discharging end, and the speed of the pulp passing through the mill is quickened, so that the fine mineral particles can be discharged in time. Therefore, minerals with larger density will not be concentrated in the ball mill, "Over-crushing" phenomenon is slighter than the overflow type ball mill, grinding speed is faster. At the same time, because mortar in lattice-type ball mill is less, and there are stopping grid plate, it can be more loaded ball, and is easy to install the ball. When the steel ball falls, the effect of weakening by the resistance of the pulp resistance is also lighter, these reasons make its productivity and efficiency higher (about 10% -25) than overflow type ball mill. In addition, its product size is coarse, and it's not easy to produce over-crushing. However, lattice-type ball mill structure is complex, the quality is large, and power consumption is large. Since the productivity is high, the unit power consumption is still higher than the overflow type ball mill. It is often used in dressing plant for rough grinding (product size> 0.2 mm) or the first stage of two continuous grindings.
